Bharatbook added a new report on "This makes Si a better candidate for
solar cells as compared to other semiconductor material such as gallium arsenide
(GaAs) or germanium (Ge)."

Direct energy conversion from sunlight to electricity is obtained through solar
cells. Advantage of solar cells is that they do not have any mechanical parts
which make them easy to use, maintenance free and leading to longer life.
Silicon (Si) is widely used semiconductor material for solar cells. Advantage of
Si over other semiconductor devices is due to well developed microelectronics
industry which has considerable knowledge of working with Si. This makes Si a
better candidate for solar cells as compared to other semiconductor material
such as gallium arsenide (GaAs) or germanium (Ge).

http://www.bharatbook.com/market-research-reports/consumer-electronics-market-research-report/high-efficient-crystalline-silicon-solar-cells-competitor-and-ip-landscape-report-key-players-innovators-and-industry-analysis.html

The present efficiency limit and cost of the solar cell are not in comparison
with conventional energy sources. Efficiency of solar cells is about 24.7% in
laboratory and 14% commercially. Some practices which are followed to reduce the
losses are better material selection, proper manufacturing techniques or
changing design procedure of the cell. Low efficiency is due to high percentage
of losses. Reflection loss, resistive loss, recombination loss and thermal loss
tend to reduce the efficiency of solar cell. The present report discusses in
detail the different mechanisms of losses occurring in the solar cells. Also
techniques that are implemented to reduce, losses are addressed briefly.
market research

Method of analysis:
Efficiency improvement of crystalline Silicon solar cells IP analyses
started with identification of control patents which are highly relevant to the
topic. It follows the identification of various keywords related to the concept
and also identifying IPC, ECLA, US, F-term and DWPI classes relevant to the
context. Logical combinations of the classes and keywords are framed and are
searched in Thomson Innovation (TI) database. The search resulted in a total of
4706 INPADOC patent families, out of which 2425 patents have been identified as
relevant. These patents are used for further analytics.

Key findings:
From the analytics, it is observed that Sharp Corp, Mitsubishi Corporation
and Canon Inc is the major players in high efficiency crystalline silicon solar
cells. Also IP activity based on publication year and priority year is observed
and the trend shows that since 2005 there is considerable growth in the
research. Among the top players Canon KK, Sandia Corp and BP Corp North America
Inc have good number of cited patents and among technologies. H01L31/04
(Semiconductor Devices as Photovoltaic Converters) and H01L31/042 (Solar Cell
Arrays) have good quality patents. Top cited patents and article list has also
been furnished in the report.

Bharatbook added a new report on "Intellectual Ventures LLC is a privately
held company notable for being among the top five patent holders in the U.S.A."

Intellectual Ventures LLC is a privately held company notable for being among
the top five patent holders in the U.S.A. It has more than 35,000 intellectual
property assets under its ownership in the USA and worldwide with a broad
technological market coverage including agriculture, automotive, communications,
computer hardware, construction, consumer electronics, ecommerce, energy,
financial services, health technologies, information technology, life sciences,
materials science, medical devices, nanotechnology, physical sciences, security,
semiconductors, and software fields.

http://www.bharatbook.com/market-research-reports/consumer-electronics-market-research-report/intellectual-ventures-patent-and-technology-landscape-report.html

Intellectual Ventures has acknowledged it intentionally withholds the true
scope and nature of its IP portfolio. Its licensing transactions and
interactions are protected by strict nondisclosure agreements, and the structure
of its business activities makes it difficult to get a handle on the full extent
of its activities. For example, our focus has identified more than 800 shell
companies that Intellectual Ventures has used to conduct its intellectual
property acquisitions, and it has taken considerable effort to identify these.
The range and scope of its activities are so vast that it is difficult to
conceptualize the reach of Intellectual Ventures. Intellectual Ventures saw $700
million in licensing revenue in the year 2010. The firm’s total licensing
revenue to date amounts to roughly $2 billion.
market research

Key findings:
The structure of the Intellectual Ventures network of operations makes it
tremendously difficult to detect and trace the company’s activities.
Intellectual Ventures has acknowledged that it uses shell companies for
purchasing and holding patents, although it has not publicly identified the
number of shells or their names. We identified more than 800 shell companies
associated with Intellectual Ventures. And also IP activity based on publication
year and priority year is observed and the trend shows that there is
considerable growth. Citation analysis of assignees and technologies is carried
out and the following results are recorded. Top cited patents list has also been
furnished in the report.

This present report analyses consist of a brief introduction to the Shell
companies. Detailed Class based taxonomy is also furnished. The report also
consists of some key findings regarding Major shell company patents, IP activity
over the years based on earliest priority year, publication year etc.

Bharatbook added a new report on "Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems are
designed with an objective of having much higher data rates compared to 3G
systems."

LTE MAC standard is being defined by the 3GPP group. As the de-facto standards
body, all firms actively participating in the standardization process
contribute/declare their patents to the body. The patents contributed to the
3GPP body have to be declared as relevant to (a) the standard and (b) the
technical specification within the standard by the contributing company. Step
(a) of the declaration citing the relevant standard for the patent is mandatory,
failing which the contributing company is not eligible for royalties. Part (b)
involving citing the relevant technical specification to which the patent is
relevant is voluntary.

http://www.bharatbook.com/market-research-reports/consumer-electronics-market-research-report/long-term-evolution-lte-mac-technology-and-competitor-landscape-report-key-players-innovators-and-industry-analysis.html

The patent contributions to any LTE standard are voluntary and are not screened
by the 3GPP body for their relevance to the technical subject. As a result, akin
to a gold rush, companies have a strong incentive to disclose as many patents as
they have relevant to as many technical specifications as possible. In summary,
contributions to a technical specification do not necessarily mean the patents
are relevant to the standard. market
research

The gold rush phenomenon increases the information asymmetry between the patent
holder and a potential licensee. This information asymmetry creates challenges
for companies that sit down to negotiate expensive royalty arrangements
subsequent to the commercial roll out of the standard.

It is thus extremely important for a licensee to understand the essential
patents in any standard. A standard is an amalgamation of many technical
specifications, and one needs to understand the essential patents in each
technical specification of the standard.
Dolcera Centre for excellence in the electronics and communications domain has
identified this problem and as a neutral 3rd party is screening the
contributions to the 3GPP body to identify the ‘probably essential’ patents. The
Dolcera Centre for excellence is working on various technical specifications to
identify the ‘essential patents’ for that specification.

The process of identification followed by Dolcera team is as follows – (a)
identifying all patent contributions to a technical specification from the 3GPP
database (b) screening all the patents for a technical specification for its
technical relevance to one of the embodiments of the standard (c) identifying
from all the relevant patents, the patents that are essential to a standard’s
implementation.

Step (a) has been done by the Dolcera team by collating the patent contributions
made to the 3GPP consortium. The step (b) of screening patents has been done by
Dolcera team of technical experts by reading through the patents. Dolcera team
has spent close to 15 to 20 minutes reading each patent document to determine
its relevance to a technical area. And finally step (c) that focuses on
identifying whether a technically relevant document is probably essential to the
standard or not, has been performed by spending close to an hour on each
technically relevant document. In this step the team has done a close comparison
of the claims of all relevant documents to the technical implementation steps
disclosed in the standard.

Dolcera team has for the purpose of this report gone through all the patent
contributions made under the Technical specifications 36.321 to determine the
patents that are technically relevant to MAC and more importantly to identify
the subset of patents that are ‘probably essential’ to the MAC implementation
under LTE.

Long Term Evolution (LTE)
Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems are designed with an objective of having
much higher data rates compared to 3G systems. This is a challenging proposition
as wireless networks are subject to interference, multipath and poor propagation
channel characteristics that limit data rates.

An aerosol is a suspension of fine solid particles or liquid droplets in a gas.
The criteria for packaging of aerosols involves speed, simplicity, spray
projection, cleanliness, freshness. Aerosol comes in metal containers (tin,
aluminum) but now a days metal containers are replaced with plastic containers
as it provides advantages like light weight (lower storage and transport costs,
improved ergonomics and user friendliness), increased safety (no highly
flammable propellants, no poisonous gases that might be inhaled) ,
environmentally friendly ( no propellants and no volatile organic hydrocarbons,
less household chemical waste and possible reuse, transparency , no rust
,compatible with current filling lines, it can be decorated by new ways like
shrink labels etc.

It provides benefits for consumers in having different designs, texture and
touch appeal. It provides secondary advantages which are not decisive at the
time of purchase) like shelf-life, accuracy of the dose delivered, ease of use
while carrying. These attributes give the plastic aerosol market a radiant
future, particularly in the case of non-flammable, low-pressure products. PET is
used as a major raw material as it is good barrier, cheap, pressure-resistant
material, it has less energy-intensive production and it has new artwork
possibilities like sleeving , labelling etc. Plastic aerosol cans fulfils the
same requirements and have the same maximum brimful volume as metal cans (1000
ml) and can be filled the same way as metal cans.
market research report

Dolcera report focuses on finding the key innovators and the industry ecosystem
through relevant patents, clinical trials and university data encompassing the
plastic container for holding aerosol content under pressure. Mostly includes a
one-piece integrally molded plastic body having a base, a sidewall and a neck
finish. A pressure container having an extruded plastic body portion is
described mostly in relevant patents. The keywords used in the search were
obtained after an extensive study of relevant patents. The class codes for the
search were obtained from the control patents and more class codes with manual
search of classification index. The report highlights year-wise patent activity
(trend line) along with the key industrial players in the field. Patents are
categorized on the basis of patent focus- aerosol container whose body is made
up of plastic material (example PET, PEN etc.). The categorized patents were
further analyzed to determine the key players under each category. A
comprehensible result in the form of Dolcera dashboard has been given. Dashboard
links the companies in each category to their patents, hence making an
interactive platform for analysis. Furthermore, patents have been mapped to
commercially available products produced by the respective assignees and other
licensees.

Introduction
Aerosol is used by a wide range of industries: health, cosmetics, food,
automobile and household chemicals. Plastic aerosol containers provide numerous
benefits for consumers: lightweight, lower storage and transportation costs,
design, texture, transparency, user friendliness and possible reuse. They are
suitable for non-flammable, low pressure products. Plastic aerosol provides
significant environmental benefits to metal packaging as there is no volatile
organic carbon. The Keltec dispensing systems convert a liquid into foam by
using pressurized air instead of a propellant. The new shapes and the artwork
possibilities make them very attractive for the packaging of new products. The
European aerosol federation (FEA) has developed new requirements for plastic
aerosols. There are tests for the empty container and filled aerosol. Graham
packaging has developed a PEN aerosol for a body hygiene product in 2002 and
have recently developed a PET product because PET is cheap and is a pressure
resistant material. The main advantage of a plastic aerosol are no rust, no BPA
(bisphenol-A), easier working, compatibility with current filling lines, and new
ways of decorating the product such as shrink labels.

Global Markets The report forecasts the size of the market in current U.S.
dollars for overall components."

INTRODUCTION
Photonic crystals present an almost unique instance of a theoretically
mature technology unable to strike roots in mainstream industry. Indeed, the
technology governing photonic crystals, although articulated clearly only
decades ago, has been known to humanity for more than 100 years. The principal
reason for lack of enthusiasm in embracing this technology is the difficulty
involved in the dismantling processes and techniques that promise extreme
efficiency on the costing and delivery fronts. However, most of these
conventional processes are facing the end of life because they have reached
their physical limits. Photonic crystal-driven sensing, which promises switching
at speeds much higher than what is delivered by present-day technologies, is
therefore poised to gain greater acceptance in various industries.

http://www.bharatbook.com/market-research-reports/information-technology-market-research-report/photonic-crystals-materials-technologies-and-global-markets.html

The extent to which photonic crystals hold promise can be gauged by the
diversity in modules and components that can monetize the potential of photonic
crystals in the near future. This report, which covers the market potential for
such modules and components, does not claim that it is an exhaustive list. It is
indeed possible for photonic crystals to be employed outside this list. The
reason for selecting these modules and components is that there have been
demonstrated instances of successful adoption of photonic crystals in these
applications. market research book

STUDY GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
This study has the following goals and objectives:
* Measuring and forecasting the market size for overall components and modules
internalizing photonic crystals in value terms for each individual component and
module, and volume terms wherever possible
* Breaking down the overall photonic crystal components’ and modules’ market
along individual components and modules: light emitting devices/diodes (LED),
solar and photovoltaic (PV) cells, displays, biosensors, image sensors, optical
fibers, discrete and integrated optical components as well as lasers and
supercontinuum sources
* Breaking down the individual photonic crystal components’ and modules’ market
along business verticals: automotive; energy, utilities and lighting; medicine;
telecom; industrial and scientific; defense, surveillance, aerospace; computing
and consumer electronics, white goods, and office space

REASONS FOR DOING THE STUDY
The principal objective of this report is to chart the progress of a
technology that is acquiring increasing surety and self-confidence across
multiple domains. Photonic crystals have been the classic underachievers: full
of promise, sound in theory but poor on implementation. The technology was a
recipient of great disservice due to overriding industry allegiance to
established processes and methodologies, to the point of testing their physical
limits. This approach always had its limitations; the question confronting
stakeholders of technologies such as photonic crystals was not if, but when
would the industry warm up to this value proposition?

Bharatbook added a new report on "LTE MIMO standard is being defined by the
3GPP group. As the de-facto standards body, all firms actively participating in
the standardization process contribute/declare their patents to the body."

LTE MIMO standard is being defined by the 3GPP group.
Part (b)
involving citing the relevant technical specification to which the patent is
relevant is voluntary.

http://bharatbook.com/market-research-reports/consumer-electronics-market-research-report/long-term-evolution-lte-mimo-technology-and-competitor-landscape-report-key-players-innovators-and-industry-analysis.html

The patent contributions to any LTE standard are voluntary and are not screened
by the 3GPP body for their relevance to the technical subject. As a result, akin
to a gold rush, companies have a strong incentive to disclose as many patents as
they have relevant to as many technical specifications as possible. In summary,
contributions to a technical specification do not necessarily mean the patents
are relevant to the standard. market
research book

Bharatbook added a new report on "Electrical wires and cables market is
growing at a steady pace as the government is investing heavily in
infrastructure development."

Electrical wires and cables market is growing at a steady pace as the government
is investing heavily in infrastructure development. Increase in capacity of the
existing power plants and commissioning of the new ones have resulted in higher
demand for electric wires and cables. Due to the roll out of 3G and broadband,
demand for electric wires and cables is likely to increase in the future.

http://bharatbook.com/market-research-reports/wires-and-cables-market-research-report/electric-wires-and-cable-market-in-india-2012.html

The report provides a brief introduction to the cables and wires market. It
shows the distribution of global cable and wire industry. It also provides the
classification and a comparison between Polyethylene (PE) and Poly Vinyl
Chloride (PVC) cables on various parameters. The market overview section gives a
snapshot of the Indian electrical equipment industry. It also highlights the
market size, growth and the segmentation. Porter’s five forces analysis helps to
understand the prevailing structure of the electric wires and cable market. The
import-export section highlights the amount of import and export with respect to
electric wires and cables over last four years and the major countries of import
and export. market report

The drivers include the huge investments made by various private companies in
power sector as well as the increasing budget allocation by the government on
the power sector. Power sector is the largest consumer of cables in India.
Another important driver is the rollout of 3G and broadband on a pan-India basis
which will boost the market as demand will increase as players look to enhance
broadband penetration levels. Government impetus in refineries, power and
fertilizers will offer a boost to the cable industry as almost all manufacturing
companies need cables. Robust industrialization and growing urbanization are the
other important drivers identified. Auto sector and railways are the other
important sectors consuming wires and cables on a large scale. Additionally,
growth will be fuelled by urbanization as cables and wires will be required in
buildings and offices. Challenges identified include increasing price rise and
competition from Chinese imports. As the price of copper continues to increase,
profit margins are squeezed and they become uncompetitive in the international
market. The next section deals with government initiatives where the credit
lending subsidiary scheme is explained. It also highlights the rules and
regulations the wire manufacturers need to adhere.

The competition section offers a bubble chart where the relative positions of
the players are depicted with respect to their revenue, net profit and market
capitalization. It also includes profiles of the major players in the market
along with their financials. Key ratios and list of important contact persons
are also listed. Key geographic areas and major business segments are also
included. Key developments that have taken place in the market have been
identified. The last section deals with the strategic recommendations where the
critical success factors important to this industry have been depicted. The
Appendix section describes various associations and exhibitions pertaining to
this sector.

Bharatbook added a new report on "Domestic Refrigerator market in India is
one of the fastest growing segments of the consumer durable industry ."

Domestic Refrigerator market in India is one of the fastest growing segments of
the consumer durable industry and is witnessing significant growth on account of
rising per capita income and improved social indicators. The market is estimated
to be worth INR 97.69 bn in 2010. Increasing role of the government to support
FDI in India and easy availability of financing will also drive the industry.

http://bharatbook.com/market-research-reports/consumer-electronics-market-research-report/domestic-refrigerator-market-in-india-2012.html

The report begins with the market overview section that gives an insight into
the consumer durable industry, its market size and segments. This is followed by
the overview of the domestic refrigerator market in India which includes the
market size and growth as well as the market share of major players, with a
brief description of the penetration level of various consumer durable products.
Distinction between various types of refrigerators on the basis of their
mechanism and features is also included in this section. Market share based on
the type of refrigerator is provided. Domestic refrigerator exports and imports
of India have also been covered, both in terms of value and volume. Imports of
refrigerator have declined in the recent past; however, the decline is
relatively stable in comparison to that of exports. Furthermore, a Porter’s five
forces model is provided to understand the competitive scenario prevailing in
the domestic refrigerator market. market
report

An analysis of the drivers and challenges explains the factors leading to the
growth of the industry. Increasing disposable income has been one of the key
factors augmenting the demand for domestic refrigerators. In addition, growth in
retail sector and improved social indicators such as increase in discretionary
Furthermore, new financing strategies and availability of credit have helped
consumers to easily afford high priced consumer products. High input costs and
import duties are the major constraints faced by the manufacturers in this
market. Environmental hazards and poor response from rural areas have also
restricted the growth of the refrigerator market.

The competition section starts with a price comparison across different brands
of refrigerators. This is followed by a bubble chart where the relative
positions of the players are depicted with respect to their revenue, net profit
and market capitalization. It also includes profiles of the major players in the
market along with their financials. Key ratios and list of important contact
persons are also listed. Key geographic areas and major business segments are
included as well. Key developments that have taken place in the market have been
identified. The recommendation section provides insights into the future outlook
of the market as well as proposes actionable insights expected to lead to a
growth in the market.

Bharatbook added a new report on "Advanced Ceramics and Nanoceramic Powders This
report provides an overview of the various advanced ceramic and nanosized
ceramic powders, their production technologies."

INTRODUCTION
Advanced ceramic materials are a mature technology with a very broad base of
current and potential applications and a growing list of material compositions.
Advanced ceramics are inorganic, nonmetallic materials with combinations of
fine–scale microstructures, purity, complex compositions and crystal structures,
and accurately controlled additives. Such materials require a level of
processing science and engineering far beyond that used in making conventional
ceramics. These new generations of high–performance materials have already
reached a U.S. market of several billion dollars. Collectively, they represent
an enabling technology whose continued development is critical to advances in a
host of new high–technology applications, ranging from modern microelectronics
to superconductors and nanotechnology.

http://www.bharatbook.com/market-research-reports/information-technology-market-research-report/advanced-ceramics-and-nanoceramic-powders.html

The outstanding properties possessed by advanced ceramics are achieved through
special compositions and microstructures that require very careful control
throughout the successive stages of ceramic processing. These stages are: powder
synthesis, powder sizing, rheology control, consolidation and forming processes,
sintering, final machining, and inspection.

Ceramic powder is a necessary ingredient for most of the structural ceramics,
electronic ceramics, ceramic coatings, and chemical processing and environmental
related ceramics. For most advanced ceramic components, starting powder is a
crucial factor. The performance characteristics of a ceramic component are
greatly influenced by precursor powder characteristics. Among the most important
are the powder’s chemical purity, particle size distribution, and the manner in
which the powders are packed in the green body before sintering.
industry analysis reports

STUDY GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
BCC published the first report on this subject, entitled Advanced Ceramic
Powders, in 1994. Since then, many new developments have occurred, especially in
the availability of large quantities of nanoceramic powders, as well as the
increased usage of these powders. BCC has updated the original report several
times in order to reflect timely developments in advanced and nanoceramic
powders. The present report is the sixth updated edition of the 1994 study. Its
objectives are to:

* Provide an overview of the various advanced ceramic and nanosized ceramic
powders, their production technologies, and applications
* Identify the technological and business issues related to the commercial
production and use of advanced ceramic and nanosized ceramic powders
* Determine the current size and future growth of the markets for oxide,
carbide, nitride, and boride ceramic powders
* Determine the current size and future growth of the markets for nanosized
ceramic powders
* Identify and profile suppliers of advanced ceramic and nanosized ceramic
powders to the U.S. market
* Identify major user industries of advanced ceramic and nanosized ceramic
powders
* Identify major issues related to the production and commercialization of
advanced ceramic and nanosized ceramic powders

CONTRIBUTIONS Of THE STUDY
BCC’s technical and economic study covers the material types, synthesis
techniques, production methods, current and emerging applications, suppliers,
and trends in consumption of the various types of advanced ceramic and nanosized
ceramic powders. Current size and future growth of the markets are estimated for
the period 2010 through 2016. The report profiles commercially significant
Bharatbook added a new report on "Probiotic microorganisms the new drugs?
The surge in the number of scientific articles and patents in recent times, on
microbes that confer health benefits when consumed."

Etymologically, the term probiotic appears to be a composite of the Latin
preposition pro ("for") and the Greek adjective ß??t???? (biotic), the latter
deriving from the noun ß??? (bios, "life") [Miller et al British Journal of
Nutrition, 2003]. Lilly and Stillwell coined the term probiotic in 1965 and
defined it as "a substance produced by one microorganism stimulating the growth
of another microorganism" and understood a probiotic as opposite to an
antibiotic [Rusch,2002].Over the course of time, various definitions of
probiotics have surfaced and the internationally adopted FAO/WHO definition was
coined in 2001 which describes probiotics as
"Live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health
benefit on the host"

Latest research in medicine has focused on using micro organisms for preventing
and treating various diseases and disorders and to improve the general health of
living beings. Probiotics for general health (yoghurt) is not a new concept, but
probiotics with therapeutic properties is an aspect gaining momentum in the
light of increasing need to go natural for cure.

The human ‘metagenome’ is a composite of Homo sapiens genes and genes present in
the genomes of the trillions of microbes that colonize our adult bodies (the ‘microbiome’).
An estimated 10-100 trillion organisms reside in the human gut (the gut
microbiota). Almost all living beings with digestive tracts (insects, birds,
mammals) have metagenomes and microbiota unique to each creature in the gut. industry
analysis reports

The gut microbiome encodes metabolic capacities that remain largely unexplored
but include the degradation of otherwise indigestible components of our diet.
Scientific studies have revealed linkages between distal gut microbial ecology,
microbial community gene content, and host immunity [June L Round et al Nature
Reviews Immunology, 2009]. Other studies have also demonstrated links between
microbial ecology and various metabolic disorders [Ping Li et al Nature, 2010]
such as obesity, inflammatory diseases, and diabetes [Vijay kumar et al Science,
2010].

Articles in reputed journals [Turnbaugh et al Nature, 2007] [Wei Ja et al
Nature, 2008] refer to the microbiota and microbiome, as suitable targets for
developing personalized, preventive and therapeutic medicine. Varying the
microbiota of the poultry, livestock and human beings through probiotic food and
feed supplements is only scratching the surface of the medicinal and commercial
potential of probiotics in the years to come.

Methods of Analysis:
Dolcera report focuses on finding the key innovators and the industry ecosystem
through relevant patents, clinical trials and university data encompassing the
advances in gut biology and probiotic micro-organisms in food. The relevant
keywords used in the search were obtained after an extensive study of relevant
scientific articles and patents. Additional keywords were further obtained by
searching for the MeSH terms of the relevant keywords. The relevant class codes
for the search were obtained from the control patents and keyword based searches
coupled with manual search of classification index. Dolcera has retrieved around
2198 relevant patents related to Probiotic microbes, their effect on the
consumer and their usage in food, covering 14 countries. The report highlights
year-wise patent activity (trend line), geographical distribution of patents
along with the key industrial players in the field. Assignees were categorized
based on the type of products. . Furthermore, patents have been mapped to
Bharatbook added a new report on "Biopolymer-Polyhydroxybutyrate – Patent
and Technology Report this report highlights year-wise patent activity (trend
line) along with the key industrial players in the field."

Modern world started utilizing plastics because of its cost and properties
suitable for the usage in various areas. The plastics are obtained either from
fossil fuels or from natural resources. The utilization of fossil fuels has
increased tremendously in many forms driving the depletion of them as the fuels
are non-renewable. The degradation of fuel derived plastics is also happening at
very low pace endangering the environment. The need of plastics which can
overcome the environment problems is driving the search for bio based polymers
which are biodegradable.

Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a biopolymer that can be used as a biodegradable
thermoplastic material. PHB is produced by micro-organisms as a form of energy
storage during stress. The genes involved in the pathway can be isolated and
utilized for the large scale production of PHB in other micro-organisms or
plants. The search towards PHB based plastic materials production with the cost
and properties competitive to the petrochemical based plastic is focused in many
industrial and research organizations.
industry analysis reports

Dolcera report focuses on finding the key innovators and the industry ecosystem
through relevant patents, clinical trials and university data encompassing the
research in the bio based production of Polyhydroxybutyrate. Dolcera has a
standardized and tested procedure to formulate comprehensive patent search
strategies to retrieve all the relevant patents. The report highlights year-wise
patent activity (trend line) along with the key industrial players in the field.
The different Companies have been categorized based on their position in the
value chain. A comprehensible result in the form of Dolcera dashboard has been
given. Dashboard links the Companies in each category to their patents, hence
making an interactive platform for analysis. Companies have also been segregated
based on their geographical distribution. . Dolcera has retrieved close to 250
relevant patents related to PHB production, covering around 17 countries.
Furthermore, patents have been mapped to commercially available products
produced by the respective assignees and other licensees. The report also
highlights different Universities and Research Institutes active in the research
of the said technology area, hence pointing out opportunities for Industry tie
ups.

Biopolymer-Polyhydroxybutyrate
Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a biopolymer that can be used as a
biodegradable thermoplastic material for waste management strategies and
biocompatibility in the medical devices. PHB is produced by microorganisms (like
Ralstonia eutrophus or Bacillus megaterium) apparently in response to conditions
of physiological stress. The polymer is primarily a product of carbon
assimilation and is employed by micro-organisms as a form of energy storage
molecule to be metabolized when other common energy sources are not available.
The polymer has evolved in nature to form ion channels in the cell walls and to
act as monorail in the ribosomes for aligning mRNA in protein synthesis. Later
in evolution it also was optimized by some bacteria to become a storage
material. The viability of microbial large scale production of PHB is dependent
on the development of a low cost process that produces biodegradable plastics
with properties similar or superior to petrochemical.
