Modern Turf, Inc., announced completion of installation of Miniverde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass at the International Nine course at the World Tour Golf Links, located in the golfing mecca of Myrtle Beach
Rembert, South Carolina – December 5, 2012 – Modern Turf, Inc., the preeminent, South Carolina-based turfgrass production company, announced completion of installation of Miniverde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass at the International Nine course at the World Tour Golf Links, located in the golfing mecca of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The International Nine is one of three nine-hole courses at the World Tour Golf Links, a unique concept for golf enthusiasts where every hole is inspired by renowned courses from around the world. The par 36 International Nine course measures 3,398 yards, with holes named after the Inverness Club, home of the PGA Championships, Spain’s Club de Golf Valderrama, Baltusrol, site of the U.S. Open, Wentworth in Surrey, England, Royal Melbourne, host of the Presidents Cup, Doral in Miami, Seminole in North Palm Beach, Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach, and Jupiter Hill in Tequesta, Florida.
“We know South Carolina golf courses better than anyone, so we were thrilled to provide the ideal turf to withstand the various extremes — heat, humidity, wind and rain — of Myrtle Beach,” said Hank Kerfoot, president of Modern Turf. “The World Tour Golf Links is like no other club in the nation, and the perfect spot for us to showcase our exceptional turfgrass. In addition to adding our MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass, the superintendent and his staff have made a variety of other key changes such as adding new drainage systems, removing trees and changing out the sand. These changes should allow our turf to adapt and thrive,” Kerfoot added.
The MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass produces deep roots and is characterized by fine leaf blades, short internodes and high shoot density. MiniVerde has been the top-rated Bermudagrass in the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) trials for the past several years.
Said Kerfoot, “Installing Bermudagrass at the International Nine was as unique an experience as playing the course. On any given day we could have also been in Ohio, New Jersey, Spain or Australia. When we were installing near the fourth hole, which is modeled after the famous seventh hole at Wentworth Golf Club, I half expected to see Ernie Els play through.”
